Cold tea is grown in the climatic dividing line of central Hunan in South China: the northern foothills of the east-west Nanling Mountains and the eastern foothills of the north-south Xuefeng Mountains, as well as tea grown on high mountains above 1,000 meters above sea level in Xinhua County. In winter and spring, affected by the warm monsoon in South China and the cold wave in the north, the temperature on the mountain at an altitude of 1,000 meters is higher than the temperature below the mountain. This phenomenon is called "south wind initiation" by the locals. Cold tea is affected by the "south wind initiation" climate, which often causes the wonders of young buds wrapped in ice and cold leaves fighting with snow. Under such climate conditions, tea trees are often frozen to death. However, pests and diseases have also been suppressed, so that there is no need to use pesticides in tea gardens; the content of tea is heavy, making cold tea products unique in quality.
